The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority DEWA has completed another significant step in the area of sustainable development. They introduced Al Rayan Masjid. This is the first mosque in the world to receive LEED ZERO certification.
This wonderful feat also marks the start of a new era of constructing new religious buildings. As well as the environmentally friendly architectural design enhances the beauty of this mosque.
Al Rayan Masjid’s achievement is only one aspect of the grand concept of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. It was launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
This mosque can also align with other sustainable development goals. It is expected to support the Hatta region or meet the social, economic, and environmental growth requirements of the people.
Al Rayan Masjid Built With Green Architectures
Al Rayan Masjid is a serious approach to the concept of sustainability. Furthermore, innovation is apparent in Al Rayan Masjid which has become the first building in the region with the LEED ZERO certificate.
As the DEWA’s MD & CEO pointed out, Alrayan Islamic Centre’s success demonstrates the company’s serious strive for sustainable development. This mosque shows how social and sacred places can be well integrated with creativity in addressing the environment.
Al Rayan mosque is a green color building that has good effects on environment. The Hatta’s Green Mosque is fully lit using solar power while used water from ablution, washing activities, and other processes is purified and recycled using an ultra-modern water treatment plant for use in irrigation and cleaning. A high-efficiency air filtration system is installed in the mosque to provide a healthy environment for the worshippers.
It is a pioneering green structure that supplies about 150% of its required annual power requirement utilizing high-performance PVs in parking and ablution zones. It serves electricity to all the required inside lighting, cooling, and heating wiring systems. Also exports electricity to the energy grid further enhancing the structural facets of the net-zero-energy mosque.
Al Rayan Masjid Is A Legacy of Sustainability
The journey of Al Rayan Mosque began in the year 2021. This was the time when this mosque got the honor of being the first mosque. Now the building has entered a new level of energy efficiency and sustainability through LEED ZERO Energy certification. Also, this mosque is a world example of sustainable mosque architecture.
The mosque’s new facility is 1,050 sqm. It has the capacity of worship for more than 600 people. With full compliance with environmental sustainability standards, this is the biggest building. Most of the facilities are available here like; the architectural design of the 25-meter high minaret, special car and motorcycle parking, and an ecological charging station for electric cars. Al Rayan Islamic Centre called a “green” project.
A Vision Towards Clean Energy Future
This feat is in complete synchrony with the vision of Dubai to become a world power in clean energy as well as a green economy. The meaning of DEWA persists in the constant endeavors of exploring more innovative solutions and driving improvements in energy efficiency, carbon emissions, and residents’ living standards within Dubai.
The success of Al Rayan Hatta’s Green Mosque Dubai as a LEED ZERO building sends a clear message: The idea can be to design spaces that are useful for the community and the world at large as well. Thus, this mosque acts as a model of new standards of sustainable development among religious and public buildings.
